Reflexology: An
ancient Chinese technique in which specific pressure points on the
feet are massaged in order to re-establish the flow of energy
throughout the body. Relieves stress and releases energy and pressure
throughout the body. This massage is very relaxing and is also a great
promoter of circulation.
Reflexology is a
gentle form of therapeutic treatment applied to the feet and sometimes
to the hands.
Reflexology is
based on the belief that there are reflex areas on the feet (and
hands) corresponding to all the parts of the body including major
organs. It is
believed that applying pressure to specific areas on the feet, hands
and ears can affect internal organs and body systems, and therefore
promote good health.
Swedish Massage:
A classical European massage technique of the muscles with special
oils by therapeutic stroking and kneading of muscle tissue to promote
stress relief. It is used to improve circulation, relieve muscle pain
and tension, increase flexibility and induce relaxation. It combines
three basic strokes to the skin: long, firm strokes; kneading strokes;
and small circles. This is the most requested and one of the most
enjoyable massages.
The term "Swedish Massage" refers to a variety of techniques
specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them
against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as
the flow of blood returning to the heart. The main purpose of Swedish
massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins
from the muscles.
Deep Tissue
Massage: A technique that focuses on the deeper layers of
muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in
the body through slow strokes and deep pressure on the contracted
areas, either following or going across the fibers of the muscles,
tendons, and fascia. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and
eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more
specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the
massage. (Soreness may last 1-2 days in some cases).
Deep Tissue Massage
is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle
tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body
through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas,
either following or going across the fiber's of the muscles, tendons
and fascia.
Shiatsu: Starting in
Japan over 5000 years ago shiatsu is an energy balancing technique
based on pathways (meridians) representing all the major organs of the
body. This massage is administered with the client in loose,
comfortable clothing and involves passive stretching, along with
finger, thumb, and palm pressure at specific points along the various
paths. Shiatsu can
help alleviate the pain associated with a wide range of conditions. It
can also assist an individual with their self development and self
healing; balancing the underlying causes of a condition; taking into
account the functioning of the physical and psychological; promoting
health and strengthening the body’s own healing abilities.
Shiatsu is a
deeply relaxing experience and regular Shiatsu sessions help to
prevent the build-up of stress in our daily lives. Following a Shiatsu
treatment, the individual may have feelings of increased vitality and
relaxation.
Hot Stone MassageSmooth, black basalt stones are heated to a temperature of 120-150
degrees and are applied to specific points along the body inducing a
greater sense of relaxation than is normally achieved through massage
alone. The therapist works with traditional Swedish massage strokes
alternating between bare hands and stone in hand techniques.
